Henry started KINDERGARTEN!
Henry started Kindergarten! Can you believe it? I sure can't. Every parent knows it's coming, but with Henry I just never fully planned for it. I didn't know what that would look like. And I didn't know the best place for him. Thankfully, we're zoned for an amazing elementary school that has an incredible CDC (Comprehensive Development Classroom) program.
He's been home for the past 3 years. I've been able to see him all day everyday and play with him and snuggle him. So I was surprised when I didn't have as hard of a time for his first day! LOL It's always chaotic anyway for first day of school days, but we got to meet with the teachers and school nurse a few times throughout the summer and that made all the difference. They are absolutely AMAZING! I could not ask for better teachers. Seriously. They adore him and take such good care of him! The school in incredibly inclusive and has him participating in all the things. He even started riding the bus in the mornings! He's such a big boy! He's happy all day and has adjusted better than I ever thought he would!
I think my mama heart was so worried more about my attachment to him than him to me LOL
He's thriving and having such a great time! I'm so proud of him! He's in a class of about 11 students with a primary teacher and 5 paras who assist with the kids. The kids range from Kindergarten to 5th grade!
He was only in school for a few weeks before he was out for his back surgery, but he made a huge impression! We took him in just for pictures the other day and all the staff was just loving on him and so excited to see him! He started back this week and it's been more of an adjustment for him, but he's still doing so well! He's just been exhausted when he gets home!
He aged out of the State services, so he receives all his therapies now through the school. He still has PT, OT, Vision, and speech. He has a stander at school, different seating options, and will be trying out a gate trainer at some point!
I see Henry really thriving through school this year. He has so much support and cheerleaders on his side! I'm really excited to see what's next for him!
With the CDC classroom, they don't teach all the kids the same curriculum; each child is met where they are and goals are set accordingly.
It's a structured day with math, science, art, etc, but it's catered to how each child learns and challenges them to their abilities.
It's truly amazing what these teachers do. Teachers in general are angels and saints dealing with a million kids all day and especially these days!
His teacher is always sending me pictures during the day and updates, which makes it so fun to see him having fun throughout the day!
They even got him a wheelchair swing for recess, which he loves!!
I am so in awe of the patience and love these teachers have for their students!
We're on fall break now, but he'll head back to school in a few days and we'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming!
